The Bexley Box project will see some of our most vulnerable adult housebound residents receive a special box filled with goods designed to keep them warm and well over the winter months.

The project, that was launched in November, has been established to try to address some of the impact of the Government's Winter Fuel payment withdrawal.

The Council is taking other actions to help with the withdrawal as set out set out in the winter Bexley Magazine being delivered across the borough from 18 November and on the cost of living pages.

We are already working with some local businesses and partners to help us fill the boxes.

If you would like to help you can donate small items to go inside the boxes you can find them at the Civic Offices or at one of our libraries

Donations

We are looking for donations of new:

  • Small fleece blankets
  • Hats
  • Gloves
  • Scarves
  • Socks
  • Insulated cups
  • Torch with batteries or wind-up torches
  • Heat packs (microwavable wheat filled)

Food

We are also looking for non-perishable long-life food, such as:

  • packet soups (or tins)
  • instant porridge pots
  • rice pudding (tinned)
  • canned vegetables (carrots, potatoes, peas)
  • tinned fruit in juice
  • pasta and tomato sauce
  • cereal
  • biscuits
  • jams and marmalade
  • marmite
  • microwave savoury rice
  • sponge puddings
  • custard
  • UHT milk
  • sugar
  • tea
  • coffee
  • long-life juice
  • hot chocolate
  • small Christmas cake or individual size Christmas puddings

Please can you ensure that all tins use ring pulls to open them wherever possible.
