Up on Joyden's Wood stands a linear earthwork first recorded in an early medieval charter. Known as the faesten dic, it has long intrigued archaeologists. Is it a remnant of prehistory?
A fortification by Roman Londoners fearing Germanic invasion?
Or an attempt by the Kingdom of Kent to keep out the forces of Wessex and Mercia?
This talk considers the earthwork's history of interpretation and how the site's heritage is today conveyed to the public.
