Author events in our libraries this summer

J.J. Arcanjo and Andy Riley

This summer, Bexleyheath Central Library is thrilled to host two exciting author events, perfect for young readers and aspiring writers. These events offer a unique opportunity to meet talented authors, learn about their creative processes and participate in interactive activities designed to spark imagination and creativity.

J.J. Arcanjo's "Crookhaven: The Island Heist" - Monday 5 August from 2pm

Join us for a special event with author J.J. Arcanjo, creator of the captivating "Crookhaven" series. This free event is perfect for children aged 9 and over. J.J. will introduce his book "Crookhaven: The Island Heist," a tale of a unique school for thieves where students learn skills like lock-picking, forgery, and crim-nastics to con the bad and aid the innocent.

During this interactive session, J.J. will share the story of 13-year-old Gabriel, a pickpocket invited to attend the secretive Crookhaven school. Children will also have the opportunity to help devise new classes and lessons for the Crookhaven students. This is a fantastic event for young readers and aspiring writers.

The event will last an hour, followed by a 30-minute book signing session where attendees can purchase copies of J.J.'s books.

Free tickets will be available from the Bexley Libraries Eventbrite page and at the Central Library from 1 July.

Andy Riley's "Action Dude" Workshop - Thursday 29 August from 10:30am to 11:30am

Later in the month, we are thrilled to welcome author-illustrator Andy Riley for a fun-filled "Action Dude" workshop. This event is ideal for children aged 7 and over and offers a unique opportunity to learn from a professional in the field.

Andy will kick off the workshop by sharing the fascinating story behind the creation of his popular "Action Dude" books. Following this, he will guide the children in drawing exciting scenes, which will be combined to create a giant comic book adventure. Whether your child is a keen artist or a reluctant one, this session promises to be a blast for everyone.

The hour-long workshop will be followed by a 30-minute book signing session, where Andy’s books will be available for purchase.

Free tickets will be available from the Bexley Libraries Eventbrite page and at the Central Library from 22 July.
