Cllr June Slaughter was elected as Ward Councillor for Sidcup 50 years ago this week (2 May).
Along with her Ward Member role, throughout the years Cllr Slaughter has served on a number of committees and twice as a Cabinet Member.
She held the position as Chairman of the Planning Committee for three years and still has a keen interest in development control. Cllr Slaughter was Deputy Mayor of Bexley from 1986-1987.
Her service was recognised by the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who sent a letter of thanks. She was also presented with a bottle of champagne from her Party Chairman signed by the Prime Minister.
Her Councillor colleagues presented her with flowers.
Cllr Slaughter said:
I feel fortunate to have been able to do something I have enjoyed - and still enjoy - for so long. I still regard it as privilege."
