Bexley Library Service is inviting residents and library users to participate in a Public Consultation on a new draft Library Strategy that will guide the future direction of library services across the Borough from 2025 to 2030. The consultation opened on Monday 11 November and will remain open until 13 January 2025.

The proposed strategy is designed to focus on four key priorities to ensure libraries continue to meet the needs of Bexley’s communities:

  1. Literacy and Reading – Aiming to foster a love of reading by providing access to a diverse range of books and resources suitable for all ages.
  2. Culture and Creativity – Enhancing opportunities for residents to engage with cultural and creative activities within Bexley’s libraries, building on current programs.
  3. Digital and Economic Improvement – Delivering quality information and digital resources to support individual and business growth, ensuring that libraries remain an invaluable resource for both personal and professional development.
  4. Health and Wellbeing – Promoting healthy lifestyles through signposting and community engagement, supporting residents’ physical and mental health.

The draft strategy also outlines plans to expand library programs and services, ensuring they are relevant and responsive to the needs of Bexley’s diverse community.

The consultation is hosted on Ask Bexley, the Borough’s new participation platform. Residents can share their views by completing the survey on the Ask Bexley website.

For those unable or preferring not to participate online, paper copies of the consultation are available at all Bexley libraries. Feedback can also be sent via email to libraries@bexley.gov.uk or mailed to Business Support Team, Central Library, Townley Road, Bexleyheath, DA6 7HJ.

Cllr Brian Bishop, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing said:

Libraries are at the heart of our community, providing invaluable resources and support to residents of all ages. This new strategy is about ensuring our libraries remain vibrant, accessible spaces that meet the needs of our changing community. We encourage everyone to take part in this consultation and help us shape the future of Bexley’s libraries."

The Council encourages all residents to take part in the consultation and have their say in shaping the future of local library services.
