Bexley’s 7th Annual Corporate Parenting Week 2024

Children’s Services teams were joined by the Director of Children’s Services, Stephen Kitchman and members of Positive Journeys Seniors.

Bexley’s annual Corporate Parenting Week is taking place this week (7 to 11 October), bringing together children in our care, young adults transitioning from care, staff, Councillors and community partners.

As Corporate Parents, it is Bexley’s responsibility to ensure that children and young people in our care receive the support, protection and opportunities they need to thrive. This week highlights the importance of fostering a nurturing environment where every child and young person feels valued, safe and empowered.

The week launched with a special event on Monday, where Children’s Services teams were joined by Leader of the Council, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Chris Taylor and Director of Children’s Services, Stephen Kitchman and members of Positive Journeys Seniors – our children in our care forum.

This week has been filled with several exciting activities for children and young people, culminating today in the annual ‘You Are Fantastic’ awards ceremony on Friday 11 October. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsor, ITRM, for their support and sponsorship of this year's events.

Stephen Kitchman, Director of Children’s Services, said:

Corporate Parenting Week is an opportunity for us to reflect on our shared responsibilities as Corporate Parents in Bexley. The young people in our care are with us for a reason and it’s our duty to make sure they feel supported, valued and safe. This week is about celebrating their achievements and recognising the vital role they play in our community.”

In addition to the planned activities, officers and young people will be raising funds for the Positive Journeys Seniors group. This group, composed of young people in our care, will use the funds to deliver much-needed support projects during Christmas. You can learn more and donate on the Justgiving website.
