The annual Bexley London Youth Games Celebration Evening took place last week (12 November), hosted by the Mayor, Councillor Sue Gower MBE JP and the Sport & Leisure Team in the Council Chamber.
This special evening celebrated the remarkable achievements of Team Bexley in the London Youth Games, one of Europe’s largest multi-sport events for young people. The event honoured the athletes, team managers, coaches and volunteers who contributed to making Bexley’s 2024 campaign a resounding success.
This year, Team Bexley entered 19 teams across 15 different sports, with 15 of these finishing in the top 10—a testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved. Over 180 young athletes from more than 55 schools represented Bexley, supported by 50 committed Team Managers, Coaches and Volunteers.
Highlights of the evening included recognition of Bexley’s medal-winning teams:
- Gold: Boccia
- Silver: Girls Judo
- Bronze: Boys Judo
Additionally, individual Gold medals were celebrated for outstanding performances in BMX and Swimming.
Councillor Richard Diment, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said:

This year’s results are a reflection of the incredible dedication of our athletes, schools and the brilliant support network of volunteers, coaches and families. Also in attendance were Kim Durrani, Deputy Director for Neighbourhoods and Janet Stone, Head of Leisure, Parks and Open Spaces, who joined in celebrating the achievements of Bexley’s young athletes.
The London Youth Games brings together young people from all 33 London boroughs, promoting inclusivity, teamwork and excellence. Team Bexley’s outstanding results this year highlight the borough’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a love of sport.
