Changes to parking penalty charges

Parking and moving traffic penalties will increase by £30 across London (including Bexley) from 7 April as a deterrent to anti-social parking and driving behaviour.

The more serious the parking contravention the higher the penalty charge. Higher-level charges in Band A areas in London including Bexley will increase from £130 to £160 (reduced to £80 if paid within 14 days of the date of issue of the penalty charge), and from £110 to £140 (reduced to £70 if paid within 14 days of the date of issue of the penalty charge) in Band B areas. All areas in the borough are in Band B with only the Bexleyheath town centre area falling into Band A.

Moving traffic contraventions such as blocking yellow box junctions will increase from £130 to £160 across the borough. This will reduce to £80 if paid within the specified period.

The increase will be the first since 2010 and is aimed at deterring people from parking and driving in a way that makes our Borough’s roads dangerous.

Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods Cllr Richard Diment said:

Our parking policies are firm but fair. We are one of the lowest issuing boroughs of parking penalty charges in London. We don’t want a borough wide Controlled Parking Zone or to charge £7 an hour as they are proposing in Greenwich, and we have one of the lowest rates of successful appeals. However we do want to make sure that people don't park or drive in a way that introduces danger onto our roads. Anyone who parks or drives legally won't get a fine”.
