London Borough of Bexley, in partnership with Mind in Bexley, Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Reinstate and Bexley Mencap, hosted a successful Good Mental Health event on Monday 20 January, at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath.
Inspired by a suggestion from a member of the Learning Disability Partnership Board, the event welcomed over 130 attendees for a day of learning, creativity and connection.
The event aimed to promote positive mental health and provide resources for adults with a learning disability. It focused on having fun while discovering practical ways to maintain mental wellbeing and access support services available in Bexley.
Attendees participated in a variety of engaging talks and workshops, including:
- wellbeing at work: Tips on how work affects mental health and strategies to maintain wellbeing while working
- relaxation and coping skills: Breathing exercises and practical advice on managing low mood, sadness and depression, along with guidance on accessing support
- healthy living: Sessions on staying healthy and fit, including health checks taking place during the event
- art and music therapy: Interactive group sessions where participants created art and music together, exploring and sharing ideas to support emotional expression and connection
Members of Bexley Mencap also shared a video they had designed, filmed and edited, showcasing techniques and activities that help them relax, inspiring attendees with creative ways to manage stress and improve their mental health.
Councillor Melvin Seymour, Cabinet Member for Adults' Services & Health said:
