Host a VE Day Street party

8 May VE Day 80 anniversary (1945 to 2025) Bexley Street parties

Bexley Council is calling on residents to join in the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day by hosting their very own street party on the May 5 Monday bank holiday.

Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) is celebrated on May 8 each year to mark the day the Allies formally accepted Germany’s surrender in 1945.

This year’s 80th anniversary will see a series of national events starting with a military procession from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace on May 5.

Hosting a street party is a fun way for everyone to come together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day and Monday 5 May, the May Bank Holiday, is the perfect time to host one. The Council will waive fees and close off the road where necessary.

Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Richard Diment said:

We know that Bexley has a strong community spirit with local people who are always willing to get involved. Our close-knit neighbourhoods have a proud tradition of hosting street parties most recently for His Majesty’s Coronation.

We want to support local people to come together and celebrate by waiving fees, closing off the road and supplying any necessary road closure signage and cones."

If you would like to host a street party check if your road is suitable and complete the expression of interest form.

The closing date for completed application forms is Sunday 30 March 2025.
