We are replacing the Borough’s old litter bins with more modern ones and providing additional litter bins in places with high footfall and a high incidence of littering.
This will mean more bins in shopping areas, outside schools and park entrances and at the busiest bus stops in Bexley.
One of the new modern design bins that we are installing is a Jubilee Duo bin which has a separate recycling and general waste compartment, making it easier for people to dispose of their litter and to recycle more of their rubbish. These bins will also improve the appearance of our public areas. In future, as all of the borough’s existing litter bins wear out they will be replaced with newer and more modern bins.
Councillor Richard Diment – Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Places said:
Keeping Bexley clean and green is a top priority for the Council and we’ve always been clear that we have zero tolerance of littering. We want Bexley to be a safer, greener place to live in and an attractive place for visitors and businesses to thrive.
By increasing the overall number of bins in our borough and investing in more modern ones that enable people to recycle as well as dispose of general waste we’re making it easier for people to dispose of their litter as well as increasing recycling.
There is no excuse for littering and we will continue to come down hard on those who damage our local areas by doing this”.
Littering, dog fouling and fly tipping anywhere in a public place are all criminal offences. On the spot fixed penalty notices of up to £300 will be issued to anyone caught littering or not clearing up after their dogs.
