The impressive new London Butterfly Gardens at Hall Place & Gardens in Bexley held its official opening last week (Tuesday 6 August).

As one of only three butterfly houses in London, this unique attraction is poised to become a favourite destination for both locals and tourists.

The colourful event was attended by Councillor Sue Gower MBE JP, the Mayor of Bexley and her Consort, Darren Tobin, Leader of the Council, Councillor Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Cabinet Member for Place Shaping, Councillor Cafer Munur and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Councillor Richard Diment, Ward Members, partners of Hall Place & Gardens and other distinguished guests.

Created by Matthew Simmonds and Nick Best, the London Butterfly Gardens was designed to both entertain and educate visitors. The garden features a specially crafted habitat maintained at a tropical temperature of 28°C with 75 to 80% humidity. This environment is ideal not only for the butterflies but also for the plants and nectar from flowers they require to feed, breed and lay eggs. Visitors can immerse themselves in this lush, naturalistic space while learning about the lifecycle of butterflies and the critical role they play in our ecosystem.

In addition to the butterfly garden, the launch event also unveiled a new retail space at the entrance of the attraction. This shop offers a variety of local crafts, gardening supplies and butterfly-themed memorabilia, providing the perfect memento of a visit to this unique experience.

Cabinet Member for Place Shaping, Councillor Cafer Munur said:

The London Butterfly Gardens is a fantastic addition to Hall Place & Gardens. It offers both beauty and education, making it a perfect destination for families and nature lovers. We are thrilled to have this unique attraction right here in South East London.”

Hall Place & Gardens offers much more than just the butterfly house. Adjacent to the London Butterfly Gardens is the Jambs Owls Experience, where visitors can get up close and personal with a variety of magnificent owls, adding another layer of wonder to their visit.

Throughout the summer, Hall Place is hosting a range of additional activities, including the Miniature Railway, the Tooth & Claw Garden Trail, local artist exhibitions in the Stables Gallery, Zoolab’s Jurassic Encounters and farmers markets at the weekend, ensuring that there is always something new and exciting to experience.

With its diverse range of attractions, Hall Place & Gardens has something for everyone. Whether you’re a nature lover, a history enthusiast or simply looking for a fun day out with the family, Hall Place & Gardens is the place to be.
