The Sidcup Storyteller - Library, Cinema, Housing & Café has won the regional LABC (Local Authority Building Control) Building Excellence award for the ‘Best public or community building’.
The award is a special nod to Bexley’s Building Control and Project Teams as well as construction partners Neilcott Construction Ltd and DRDH.
The Storyteller will now be put forward to the national LABC awards in January 2025.
Earlier this year the building, which opened in December 2022, received the coveted Pineapple Award. The Pineapple Award is designed to recognise and promote best practice as well as the contribution that a new build makes to the renewal of an area and its positive impact on a local community.
Cabinet Member for Place Shaping, Cllr Cafer Munur said:
We knew when the building opened for business that we had something special. It’s instantly recognisable frontage and town centre spot make it a real coup for the borough. I’m delighted that our Building Control team have been recognised for their hard work in bringing this project to life.”
The library is run by the Council and the cinema is a partnership between the London Borough of Bexley and independent operator Really Local Group (RLG).
The cinema screens a range of film titles from new releases, family favourites, classic titles and arthouse specials.
Find out more about what’s on at the cinema by visiting the Sidcup Storyteller website.
The Council's Building Control Team ensure building works meet government regulations in areas such as safety, accessibility and energy efficiency. The team includes inspectors registered with the Building Safety Regulator as competent to assess the compliance of a range of construction activities. More information can be found on the Building notices page.
