The London Borough of Bexley is once again set to distribute funds through local organisations to help support those who need it most.

The funds are part of the latest allocation of the Household Support Fund (HSF) from the Department for Work and Pensions.

The Council has been allocated a grant of £1.54m to help local residents .

The funds will be distributed by the Council and in partnership with local voluntary sector and community groups.

Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources, Cllr David Leaf said:

This is the fifth round of the Household Support Fund allocation from the Government and we have continued to work closely with community groups in Bexley so that this support reaches those people who need it most.

The local organisations we are working with are in the right place in the community to be able to provide support to those residents who may be experiencing periods of financial difficulty and hardship. I am grateful to those groups we are working with and would encourage anyone in need of assistance to come forward and find out more information on the help available on our website.”

The money will be used for:

  • Free School Meals in the school holidays
  • Housing Services
  • Children’s Social Care
  • Adult Social Care
  • Carers
  • Local foodbanks and community fridges/pantries
  • Community organisations that specialise in the provision of white goods and furniture
  • Citizens Advice to support with debt advice

The HSF is not a benefits entitlement. All residents are able to approach the distributing organisation to apply for support based on their individual cost of living circumstances. Decisions are taken on an individual basis.

The funding will shortly be allocated to local groups to distribute. Full details on the groups involved with more information will shortly be available on the Council’s website.
