The London Borough of Bexley is working with the ‘Dinosaurs in the Park’ event organisers to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to protect the nesting swans in Danson Park.
The auditorium – and any other items connected with the event - will be fenced off and hoarded.
Additional screening is being erected to aid with sound reduction and all speakers will be faced away from the nest. We are also relocating the event entrance further away and moving the position of some of the dinosaurs.
The nest is about 18 metres away from the nearest fence line of the event, with a treeline and pedestrian footpath also in between.
The swans have nested alongside one of the busiest pathways in the park, constantly busy with walkers, families and runners. We have erected low pedestrian barriers to protect the nest rather than tall fencing due to concerns about the stability of tall temporary fencing in this location. It could lead to a greater risk of falling and harming the wildlife or pedestrians.
Council officers are regularly visiting the site to ensure the safety of the nesting birds.
‘Dinosaurs in the Park’ is currently setting up in preparation for its first day of operation on Thursday 16 May.
