What is the Bexley Food Action Alliance?

The Bexley Food Action Alliance is a collaborative network bringing together a diverse range of organisations and individuals operating in the London borough of Bexley.

Food insecurity is a complex issue that often goes hand-in-hand with other factors such as mental health problems or insecurity relating to employment or housing. It can also be experienced differently by different people depending on things such as their age, gender, race or where they live. Tackling food poverty therefore requires solutions that go beyond simply providing support through emergency food provision.

The alliance aims to increase awareness of and work towards eliminating food insecurity and food inequalities that exist in the borough, to help improve the sustainability and resilience of local food partnerships and food aid approaches, and to promote other services that address issues interconnected with, or at the root of food poverty.

We want to ensure that everyone has access to enjoyable, nutritious, sustainable and culturally appropriate food and that if they need other types of support, we can point them in the right direction.

What to do if you need emergency food provision?

A map with an up-to-date account of emergency food provisions and wraparound services across Bexley is currently being developed, please get in touch with us if you have any questions or want to ensure your services are added to this map. Our Worried about food page has information about food aid and support that can help.

Any individual or organisation that supports our aims can join the alliance. This can include but is not limited to, voluntary and community organisations, statutory colleagues or businesses actively engaging and providing services to Bexley residents. By being part of the alliance and attending our meetings, you will:

  • gain an understanding of what emergency food aid organisations exist in the borough and what they offer
  • identify gaps in support for Bexley residents and work together to overcome them
  • find out what support might be available for your projects or organisation, such as funding opportunities
  • share ideas, develop solutions together and learn from others working in the borough
  • learn about training opportunities and how you might promote other wraparound services to clients in need
  • meet like-minded individuals and be part of a network of care and support
  • represent the needs and wishes of those living in Bexley
