Bexley has been the best London Borough for recycling for 17 years in succession with a 50% recycling rate. This means that no municipal waste is sent to landfill.

Waste is either sent directly to Cory Riverside’s Belvedere Energy from the Waste plant or to the Council’s Thames Road waste transfer station.

  • The council has upgraded its vehicle fleet which is now quieter and more energy efficient than previous vehicles.
  • Bexley has planted 13,500 trees on the borough's highways.
  • Council staff have moved from four older and less efficient buildings into the current Civic Office. Flexible working for staff has also been introduced, reducing car travel to work.
  • In 2018/19, there were no reported times that the national air quality objectives were exceeded at Bexley's Air Quality Monitoring sites for fine particles (PM10) and Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2).
  • 19,000 streetlights in Bexley were upgraded to energy efficient LEDs between September 2016 and March 2018.
