St Joseph’s pupils back the Bexley Box

School Council pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School voted to support the Bexley Box project this Christmas.

Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Caroline Newton and Cabinet Member for Adults’ Services and Health, Cllr Melvin Seymour went along to collect their generous donations today (Friday 20 December).

They were overwhelmed at the amount of goodies that the children had managed to collect for the scheme that is designed to benefit Bexley’s elderly housebound residents.

Head Teacher, Amanda Truss, was on hand to help load the Councillors cars with the goods that will now be distributed to residents.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE said:

How wonderful that some of our youngest residents felt the need to take part in the Bexley Box project. This is another example of how our community have really got behind us.

I felt sure that we would see offers of help from community groups and residents when we launched the scheme but I have been left speechless by the kindness we have seen.

Whether it be delivering boxes, donating goods or just spreading the word – we have been so humbled by the reaction. My thanks go out to everyone who has got involved.”

The boxes have been funded entirely by donations.

If you have not yet made a donation and would like to do so, it is not too late. We are able to receive donations up to and including Monday 6 January 2025.

Please email BexleyBox@bexley.gov.uk or call 020 8187 7613 if you would like to make a donation, or know a housebound elderly resident who would like to receive a box.
