How the scheme works
The Community Living and Support scheme matches Shared Lives carers, who are willing to share their homes, family lives, interests, experiences and skills, with adults who need support to live fulfilling lives.
As a Shared Lives carer, you provide a bedroom and shared living spaces, inviting the person to live with you and your family.
The Shared Lives scheme
The Shared Lives scheme involves carers welcoming the person they support into their own home.
To become a Shared Lives carer, people need to complete a detailed approval process.
For those assessed as eligible, the scheme offers both long-term and short-stay care in a regular home environment within the community.
The support you provide will be planned around your family’s needs and schedule.

Become a Shared Lives carer
We are looking for Shared Lives carers who can provide a wide range of care and support, as the people we help have many different needs.
You can come from all walks of life and choose to care for a wide variety of reasons. Formal experience of caring is less important than enthusiasm, motivation and commitment.
We can offer full support, training and access to the network of Shared Lives carers, so you are not alone.
