Talk to people about being an unpaid carer

It can also be helpful to chat one-on-one with someone about what you are going through.

We understand that unpaid carers sometimes want to talk to people outside of their immediate friends and family.

Support is available across the borough. The following services allow you to discuss your concerns with others:

  • Carers’ Support Bexley also provides professional counselling for unpaid carers. This is a free service provided by a volunteer, trainee counsellor supervised and supported by a fully qualified counsellor.
  • Counselling Matters Bexley offers a range of therapeutic support including talk therapy, psychotherapy, trauma therapy and more.
  • MIND in Bexley is a mental health charity operating within the borough. They run a unpaid carers advice line where carers of adults experiencing mental health problems can receive accessible and responsive support from professionals.
  • Cross Roads Care run a monthly lunch group through their befriending and older unpaid carers service. Their sessions bring people of all ages together to develop fulfilling friendships and support networks, while giving everyone involved something to look forward to each month.
  • Bexley MENCAP offers a family support service for unpaid carers who care for a person with a learning disability. They provide advice and practical support on several subjects, such as filling out forms, housing, benefits and social activities.
