Apply for Cost of living support funding
Use this service to:
Apply to receive cost of living support funding because you need help paying for:
- food and home essentials
- energy
- water
- essentials linked to energy and water
- housing costs in exceptional circumstances, but not mortgages.
The fund is also available for those who are not considered eligible for other public funds.

What do I need to provide?
Details you will need
Ensure you have the following details to hand:
About you
- National Insurance number
- details of your typical income
- details of your typical spending
- total amount of savings you currently have
- details of any debt you currently have
About your household (if applicable)
Details about each member of your household:
- name
- date of birth
- their income (if over 18 and receive an income from wages or benefits)
- any disabilities or vulnerabilities
Documents you will need to upload (scanned or a clear photo)
Ensure you have the following documents to hand:
About you
- bank statements from the last 3 months
- proof of income. For example:
- last 3 payslips
- Universal Credit statement
You may also need to upload the following:
- proof of when you will receive your next wages or Universal Credit payment. For example:
- your last payslip
- benefits award letters
- your Universal Credit statement
About your household (if applicable)
You may need the following documents to hand:
- bank statements from the last 3 months for each member of your household (if they are over 18 and have a bank account)
- proof of income (if they are over 18 and receiving an income from wages or benefits). For example:
- last 3 payslips
- Universal Credit statement
Housing costs
If you need help with energy or water bills, you will need to upload:
- your most recent energy/water bill
If you need help with other housing costs that are not a mortgage, you will need to upload:
- your most recent bills for these housing costs
Completion can take at least 35 minutes.
Before you start
- failure to provide supporting documents will lead to delays in assessing your application
- priority is given to first-time applicants (those not eligible for other types of help)
- typically, one application per household
- awards are typically capped and prioritised in accordance with published guidelines
