What goes in my recycling wheelie bins?

Your white-lidded bin is for plastic packaging, glass, cans and cartons. Your blue-lidded bin is for clean paper and card.

No additional rubbish and recycling left at the side of your bins will be collected.

Recycling bins with a white lid

This wheelie bin is used for plastic packaging, glass, cans and cartons. plastic bottles, pots, tubs and plastic trays. Please give your recycling a quick rinse when you do the washing up.

We’ll collect:

  • glass bottles and jars (metal lids can go in, but separately)
  • plastic food containers like yoghurt pots, spread tubs and meat, fruit or ready meal trays
  • plastic bottles
  • food and drink cartons and cans
  • plastic tubs or metal tins from sweets and cakes
  • foil

We will not collect:

Please do not put the following items in your white lid bin as they cannot be recycled:

  • mirrors or sheet glass (see dangerous waste)
  • lightbulbs
  • glass cookware (like Pyrex) or drinking glasses
  • pet food pouches
  • polystyrene (general waste bin or recycling centre)
  • nappies
  • other household plastics like plant pots, film plastics, crisp packets or plastic bags

Recycling bins with a blue lid

This wheelie bin is used for paper and cardboard.

We’ll collect:

  • newspapers and magazines
  • letters, envelopes and junk mail (whole or shredded)
  • cereal boxes and other dry food and medicine packaging
  • paper bags
  • cardboard boxes (flattened)

We will not collect:

Please do not put the following items in your blue lid bin as they cannot be recycled:

  • food or drink cartons
  • plastics (including bags), glass or foil
  • foam cups, or used paper cups, plates and straws
  • foil/glittery wrapping paper or gift bags

Your item not listed?

You should put items, not on the recyclable list into the general rubbish green wheeled bin for collection. Or better still, taken to a reuse and recycling centre for safer disposal. You can always make use of a local recycling bank if you’ve had a clear-out or want to recycle something we don’t collect.
