Commissioning Plans
The Council has a responsibility to monitor the supply and demand for school places and ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet demand by planning for growth. Increases in demand patterns mean that all local authorities face unprecedented challenges to do this and these documents set out the approach that is being taken by the Council to plan for mainstream and Special Educational Needs (SEN) school places over the next two to three years.
The Plans have been developed during a period in which we have started to meet the need and continue to plan for future growth as our Housing increases, this will impact on school places. Due to good management of planning for places and monitoring the capacity of our existing schools we are currently meeting demand but have faced an increase in Education Health Care Plans being issued to our pupils with SEN.
We have also created an SEN Commissioning Plan which demonstrates the current pressures we are facing, the different types of need that we have to accommodate and our overall strategic aim of providing a good education to pupils with SEN and preventing them from having to travel out of the borough.
The Plans include:
- Foreword from Cllr John Fuller, Cabinet Member for Education
- Executive Summary including an A4 Overview for Head Teachers
- The Bexley Context
- the challenges of meeting increased demand
- how new demand for SEN and mainstream will be forecast and met
- the capacity of Bexley's Schools and the potential for further expansion including ongoing projects
- Funding Capacity to carry out the required work
- next Steps
