Adaptations and equipment
If you have a change in your condition, or are disabled, and your ability to carry out daily activities around your home is affected, we can offer support such as:
- support you to adapt your day-to-day
routines - identify any environmental barriers and recommend equipment and adaptations that can help you carry out daily tasks independently. This may include:
- solutions to your bathing difficulties, such as grab rails and other equipment
- raised toilet seats and commodes
- transfer aids e.g. hoists and standing hoists
If you have more complex needs, the Occupational Therapy (OT) team may carry out an assessment of your home and the space immediately outside your home and make recommendations. This may include arranging major adaptations like stairlifts and ramps.
To be referred to the Occupational Therapy Team please call 020 8303 7777.
If you have a carer, the OT team will consider their needs and abilities and give advice and equipment to make things easier and safer for them to carry out their caring role.
Who pays for these changes depends on several factors including who owns your home and your financial eligibility for a Disabled Facilities Grants.
Minor adaptations under £1000 are not financially assessed.
You usually need someone to check what changes you need, like an Occupational Therapist. If you live in your home, the council might help you pay for these changes based on your income.
Visit One Bexley to explore local support options for aids and equipment without the need for a full assessment.
