Self assessments
To get help from us with social care, we will check if your needs meet certain eligibility criteria.
If you do not meet the criteria, we will still offer advice and help you find community services, some of which might be free.
If you have a change in your condition, or are disabled, and your ability to carry out daily activities around your home is affected, you could also be referred to our Occupational Therapy team who can support you to adapt your day-to-day routines. They can also identify any environmental barriers and recommend equipment and adaptations that can help you carry out daily tasks independently.

Our duties and your rights under The Care Act 2014
The Care Act 2014 explains how care and support should be given to adults in England and how it should be funded.
The Care Act 2014 emphasises making care services tailored to everyone, focusing on their specific needs and preferences.
All councils follow the same national guidelines to decide what care and support they can provide. We will consider how your needs affect your ability to achieve your goals and whether this has a major impact on your well-being.
The Act introduces a legal duty for the council to meet your 'eligible needs,' based on your financial situation.
You are entitled to have your needs met if:
- you have 'eligible' needs
- you are 'ordinarily resident' in the local area, meaning your established home is there
- or you are in any of the four situations below
When must the council meet your needs?
- the care and support you need are provided free of charge
- you can’t afford to pay the full cost of your care and support
- you request the council to meet your needs
- you lack mental capacity and have no one else to arrange care for you
