The process of paying for your care

Bexley’s Adult Social Care teams will provide you with free information, advice and signposting to helpful local and national services based on the conversation with you.

They will discuss your current circumstances, and how you are managing, before working with you to identify what support they can provide. this is usually referred to as an assessment of need. It is provided at no cost, and we only go on to look at how much you will need to financially contribute to your care and support if we agree you need ongoing assistance.

The Social Care Assessment is provided at no cost and is open to individuals aged 18 and above who may require assistance. Through the conversation (assessment), we determine a person's strengths, other services that may be able to offer you support and as well as identify areas where the Council can assist you.

Take this short assessment to see what help and support you can receive.

If you or the person you care for are having trouble filling out the assessment form, you can go to any One Bexley charity or any council-run library and ask about the support available to help you complete the form.

Over the phone assessments are also available. Please call our Single Point of Contact team on 020 8303 7777.

At the end of the form, we will let you know if you may be eligible for help. After that, you can continue and ask for a complete evaluation.

After assessing your care needs and creating a care plan with you outlining how your needs will be met, we will then discuss how this will be paid for.

If we do feel that you would benefit from care and support, you may also be eligible for additional non-means tested benefits too, such as Attendance Allowance if you are of pensionable age or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) if you are below pensionable age.

For people on low incomes these benefits can also mean you could get higher levels of Pension Credit or Universal Credit, so it is always good to check this.
