How we work out your care costs

Whatever your situation, we can offer
information and advice to help you understand how care and support services work locally, and how these
are funded.

The cost of your care is worked out simply by multiplying the cost of the services you receive by how often you receive them. For example, if you have two hours of home care a week which costs £20.64 an hour, meaning your weekly total cost will be £41.28.

What we have decided you can afford (your ‘assessed maximum contribution’) might be more or less than that - but we will never charge you more than your cost of your care.

Administrative fees and charges

If your financial assessment determines that you are responsible for the full cost of your care, you will have the option to either arrange these services for yourself, maybe using our Care Hub to assist you or have us arrange them on your behalf.

Should you choose to have us arrange your services, our Brokerage Team will handle the arrangement, for which we charge an admin fee. This fee has four bands to reflect the level of service receive and these reflects the expenses incurred by the council, for arranging, managing and quality assuring these services.

For example:

  • if your total cost is £41.28, but your assessed maximum contribution is £14.00, we will charge you £14.00
  • if your total cost is £41.28, but your assessed maximum contribution is £45.00, we will charge you £41.28

You can ask us to review your charges if you disagree or cannot pay.

You will need to email us at bexley.finance.assessment@capita.co.uk explaining why you think our charges should be different.

You should include any evidence you need us to look at, and we will respond to you in writing.

We will try and assess your finances as close to your care starting as possible, so you know in advance how much may you have to pay. But even if we assess you later (for example, because we didn’t have your financial information), we will charge you from the day your care started.
