Site inspections
When you are ready to start work, if you have used an agent to make your Building Regulations application, they should have provided you with the most current drawings and a copy of our approval/acknowledgement notice associated with your application.
You or your builder will then need to let us know as soon as work starts and you are ready for a first inspection. This can be done either by email to buildingcontrolinspections@bexley.gov.uk or online.
Please note that we are unable to contact you to provide an approximate time of when the officer plans to arrive.
You or your builder should then ensure you contact us to arrange further inspections at key stages of the work so that we can offer advice and check that the work is being carried out safely and in accordance with the Building Regulations.
When the works have finished, and prior to the final inspection, where your Building Notice or Full Plans application was made on or after 1 October 2023, prior to making a final inspection request a Notification of Completion must be submitted. Once this form has been completed please request an inspection. A completion inspection request cannot be fulfilled until the Completion Notice has been submitted.
Following a satisfactory final inspection, full payment of your Building Control fees and receipt of any relevant documentation, we will issue your completion certificate free of charge. This provides proof to building societies, banks and solicitors that, as far as can be ascertained, the work complied with the Building Regulations and had been completed to the Local Authority’s satisfaction. You should keep this document in a safe place for future reference as you may need it if you sell your house or remortgage in the future.
