Bexley’s local heroes!
The Civic Offices in Bexleyheath were filled with pride and celebrations when the Annual Civic Recognition Awards took place in May.
With over 99 nominations, the awards highlighted the exceptional efforts of individuals across three categories: Civic Recognition of Voluntary Service by Young People, Civic Recognition of Voluntary Service by Adults, and Civic Recognition of Outstanding Achievement. An impressive 39 winners were celebrated for their dedication, hard work, and inspiring volunteer efforts.
The awards are a testament to the incredible spirit of the Bexley community. It is truly inspiring to see so many people, both young and old, dedicating their time and energy to make Bexley a better place for all.
The Civic Recognition Awards continue to be a highlight of Bexley’s annual calendar, showcasing the outstanding achievements and volunteerism that enhance the Borough’s well-being and development.

International Women’s Day Awards
This year, the London Borough of Bexley launched its first International Women’s Day Awards to recognise local women and organisations who are inspiring inclusion.
Councillor Baroness O’Neill of Bexley OBE, Leader of the Council said:
Celebrating International Women’s Day is one of the ways we want to make Bexley a fairer place to live, work and study. We hope to inspire future generations and foster a culture of inclusivity and equality.”

Respect in Bexley win a national Leaders List Award
Congratulations to Respect in Bexley whose advocacy for people with a learning disability and autism has won them a place on the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders List. The list is the UK’s first national awards which recognises people with learning disabilities and autistic people who are making communities better for themselves and others. It shines an important spotlight on their achievements and their commitment to making a difference.
Respect in Bexley, run by Bexley Mencap, has a long history of speaking up for people with learning disabilities and autism. The group meets each week to work together, talk about important things in their lives and make a real impact on the world around them.
