Adult Social Care Vision aspirations

Bexley’s Adult Social Care Vision ‘Your Life, Your Choice’ supports us to work towards our aspirations that residents can live the life they want to live, setting out how we will work with people who need social care support, their family and friends and our partners.

The Vision has been developed by listening to what people with lived experience have said. Their feedback has been used to form Bexley’s Adult Social Care commitments.

Cllr Melvin Seymour Cabinet Member for Adults' Services & Health said:

We believe that adults with care and support needs should have the best opportunity to lead healthy, fulfilled and independent lives. We are committed to ensuring that residents using Adult Social Care services can have local, personalised care and have the choice and control over how their needs are met.

Each priority in our Vision is accompanied by ‘we will’ statements. These statements clarify what service our residents can expect to receive and the goals we are working towards”.

Putting customers at the heart of what we do

Thank you to everyone who participated in our public consultation on customer experience - nearly 700 people through our online survey and dozens more in focus groups.

As a result of your feedback, we have launched the Customer Experience Strategy, with these key commitments:

  • we will provide clear information about our services and how you can access them
  • we will be clear about what services you can access and whether there are any charges for them
  • if we are unable to provide you with the service you need, we will support you to identify those who may be able to help

These are underpinned by three principles of working:

  • we will treat you with courtesy and respect and expect the same in return
  • we will constantly listen and learn about the diverse needs of our borough and ensure that we provide inclusive, accessible services to you
  • we will spend our limited resources wisely and well, working efficiently to make the most of our resources

Cllr David Leaf, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

Our customers – our residents, businesses and staff - are at the heart of what we do. We are determined to improve the experiences they have when they contact us. We have listened to their feedback and have developed a new four-year strategy to modernise and improve the way we engage with our residents.”
